JAMES P. NORRIS

On August 20, 2015, a rainbow met James Patrick Norris as he passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Barbara and is survived by his children, David, Thomas and Leah; daughter-in-law, Kirsten; son-in-law, John and grandchildren, Eric, Cassie, Meaghan and Annika. He was the loving son of the late William and Nellie Norris of County Kerry Ireland. He is also survived by his loving siblings, William, Thomas, Mary Ellen, Sheila, Raymond and Marian.

His career spanned over three decades as leader of the Air Conditioning Contractors of America. After retirement, he found his final career and a new passion in acting and appeared in numerous plays.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD on September 1 from 12 to 1 p.m., where funeral service will follow at 1 p.m.

Passed away August 21, 2015, in Johns Creek, Georgia at the age of 67. Bob was the beloved and devoted husband of 42 years (40 legal) to his wife, Lisa. He was the father of Gordon Davis and daughter-in-law, Deana and had a special place in his heart for his granddaughters, Payton and Casey. He was also survived by his brother, Joseph Paul; sister-in-law, Karen, and their children, Angela and JW Slayton. Bob progressed from Coolidge High School, Montgomery College, American University and graduated from Pitt University Medical Physics Master’s program. He worked in Radiation Oncology and was an Army Captain and Commander in the Public Health Service, retiring after 24 years. Bob loved being Mr. Fix-it and an extraordinary trivia and minutiae buff. He was an avid Redskin fan, loved martial arts, power lifting and wrestling, playing and refereeing volleyball and watching his granddaughters play lacrosse. Bob lived for many years in Washington, DC. Bob and Lisa moved back to Florida and were an inseparable pair that loved skipping, dancing and traveling. The family will receive relatives and friends to celebrate his life and support one another from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2015 at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD (valet parking). Interment will follow at a later date to be held at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Honors for his military service to his country.

SHIRLEY JANE (KLEIST) BURCH

Shirley was born at home in Souderton, PA, July 3, 1933, died at home in Riderwood Village, Silver Spring, MD, August 23, 2015; she now rejoices in her eternal Home. She is preceded in death by her parents Harriett H. (Jones) Kleist and Dwight E. Kleist, brother Dwight E. Kleist, Jr., sister G. Elizabeth “Bette” Olson, and beloved husband Douglas H. Burch. She graduated from Juniata College and the U. of Penn School of Nursing. Shirley served as a pediatric nurse at Cedars of Lebanon Hospital and the Children’s Hospitals of PA and Washington, D.C. Wed to Doug in 1966, they made a home in Rockville. She is survived by daughters Susan Jane (Gary) Burns, of Sacramento, CA, Jennifer Marie Burch (Kenneth Fleak), and grandson Riley Fleak of Roxborough, CO; and sister Dorothea “Dottie” Rowden. She served in many volunteer and leadership positions at Glenmont United Methodist Church, Rockville’s historic Glenview Mansion, and beyond. She traveled to almost every U.S. state and adventured to more than a dozen countries. In later life she was active in Riderwood’s Circle Fellowship and other community groups. Shirley’s final journey with pancreatic cancer was blessedly brief. Her family is grateful for the steadfast love and support of her dear friends. A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at the Riderwood Chapel, 3110 Gracefield Road, Silver Spring, MD, on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. Memorial gifts may be made in her honor to Riderwood Benevolent Care Fund, United Methodist Women, or Trees For Life.

Passed away early in the morning of August 22, 2015, at Mystic Waters in Lake Lure, North Carolina. Al was the beloved husband of the late Margaret E. “Peg” Weaver; and father of Kathy (Jim), Kevin (Eleanor), Robert (Lyn) and Trish (Mike). He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren, Corey, Jenna, Bryan (Elina), Kelly, Beth, Keegan, Ryan, Jesse, Christy, David and Charlie. Having graduated from St. John’s College High School, starring in basketball, Al attended Catholic University, again playing basketball and graduating from the ROTC program. Al was the Administrator of the Computer Procurement Program at NASA and a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, retiring after 25 years’ service with NASA. He was devoted to Peg, his wife of 57 years. Al loved coaching football, basketball and baseball at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and St. John’s High School. An avid water skier, Al lived for many years in Lake Gaston, NC. More recently, Al and his grandson Corey were an inseparable pair traveling the professional water ski circuit. The family will receive relatives and friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 26, 2015 at Collins Funeral Home, 500 University Blvd. West, Silver Spring, MD (valet parking).
